South Carolina Public Records
The State of South Carolina offers a range of options for people to be able to access the records and documents that they require. These documents can generally be ordered online, which saves time and effort on the part of the person who needs the records.
Birth and Death Records
The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control offers access to birth certificates and death certificates in person, by mail, via telephone 1-877-284-1008 toll-free or using the Vitalchek option which provides secure online ordering options.

Marriage and Divorce Records
If you are looking for a copy of a marriage license, you can obtain a copy of it from The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control but only if the marriage took place between July 1950 and December 2010. Any marriage records outside of these dates must be obtained from the court that issued the license.
A report of divorce can be obtained from SCDHEC for divorces decreed from July, 1962 up to December, 2010. All others must be obtained from the county court that pronounced the divorce decree.
Driving Record Information
You can obtain your driving record from the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles website. You will need to agree to the disclaimer on the face page and then proceed to the ordering page. You will need to provide a credit card to pay for the record ($6.00) and fill in the relevant information required to order the record.
Court Records
If you are looking for information regarding a court case, you can visit the South Carolina Judicial Department online and search for the information you are looking for on that site. You need to know the court level and the names of the parties involved in the case to find the information you seek.
Property Records
If you are looking for specific information regarding a property, you can access this website to see a list of the counties and the websites and links for each county that will allow you to access the information you are looking for. Each county has a website that provides contact information and some sites have online forms that you can complete to request specific information regarding a property.
Sex Offenders
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division provides a form where you can simply search for offenders that reside in your local area. A small link at the bottom of the page takes you to a page where you can enter your own address and then see a list of all offenders who reside in the surrounding area. You can also search by name or see a full list of all offenders listed on the site. You can also sign up to receive email alerts to be notified whenever an offender is registered and moves into a certain proximity of the address that you have provided. This site is provided for free use by all residents in the State of South Carolina.
