Rhode Island Public Records
The State of Rhode Island provides a variety of online resources to make it easier for anyone to access information that they need, whether it be birth or death certificates, information on their driving record, court records, marriage information, property records or the sex offender registry. It can be difficult for many people to access a physical office location where they can attend to order certain documents, so many online services simplify these processes.
Birth, Death and Marriage Certificates
The State of Rhode Island Department of Health provides the ability for a person to order one of these records online. Simply navigate to their site and you can choose the correct form to use. There are separate forms and fees for Birth, Death and Marriage certificates. If you prefer to attend in person, you can go to the office located at:
State of Rhode Island
Department of Health
3 Capitol Hill
Providence, RI 02908
Divorce Decree
If you want to obtain a copy of a divorce decree, you can do so through this link. You will need to provide all of the required information and then submit the form for processing.
Driver Records
The State of Rhode Island Motor Vehicle Records allows a driver to obtain their history through this link. You will need a credit card and your driver’s licence number to fill out the application correctly. You only have access to the past three years when you order your driving record. Take note of how long it will take for you to receive the record when you order it through the site. If you need the record in a hurry, you may want to expedite the process and pay the extra fee for this service.
Court Records
The Rhode Island Judiciary site offers access to a variety of records. You can access historical court records online, but if you want more up to date records you will need to attend in person at:
Rhode Island Supreme Court
Judicial Records Center
5 Hill Street
Pawtucket, RI 02860-3913
You are free to examine the records on site, but they cannot be removed from the courthouse.
Property Records
If you are seeking information regarding property records, you will need to navigate to the individual county website to find what you are looking for. Here is a list of the counties with links to their websites. Some counties do not have land evidence records available online, so you may need to personally attend at the office to find what you are looking for.
Registered Sex Offenders
As with many other states, the State of Rhode Island offers information regarding sex offenders through their Parole Board & Sex Offender Community Notification Unit. You will need to first agree to the terms listed on the front page and then you will be taken to the registry page. You can view a complete list of offenders (level II or level III) in alphabetical order with their current city of residence or you can do your own search by city/town or zip code.
